From Thomas: A Reflection on My Chart

I am a 27 degree Leo rising. Pluto at 0 degree Virgo is in a 3 degree conjunction to my ascendant. Sun is at 5 degree Pisces in the 7th house of Libra (love, partnership and relating to others) in opposition to Pluto in the first house of self identity. Moon is at 14 degrees Taurus in the 9th house of Sagittarius, in an 8 degree conjunction to the midheaven. What does all this mean?

Thomas Fortel Natal Chart

The Sun in Pisces denotes an individual who is more at ease in the energetic and mystical realities of life. They are sensitive, gentle, and caring individuals. They are more in tune with universal than personal love and are very compassionate with family, friends and coworkers. Pisces tend to have issues with boundaries, either overly taking caring of others or letting people take advantage of them. Pisces will definitely learn about boundaries in this lifetime. They are the closest of all to God and Goddess, the formless dimension of being, and are naturally prone to spiritual practice, as well as addictions. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac wheel which indicates a focus on endings and bringing things to completion in this lifetime. Other signs can build karmic piles, Pisces has to deal with their piles. This partly explains the tendency to addictions. My Sun is in the 7th house of Libra, the house of relationship. When the Sun is in the 7th, the person has a tendency to lose themselves in relationship, a similar tendency to Pisces. The Sun expresses itself here with good manners and social niceties. Friendliness and social graces are normal with this as well as a tendency to being artificial and fake. The Sun in the 7th house wants to express itself outwardly with other people, communicating and sharing with others.

My rising or ascendant is 27 degree Leo. Whereas the Sun in Pisces loves personal and private time, Leo ascendant is quite gregarious and happy to be onstage getting attention and recognition from others. This is the outer persona of Thomas, Leo rising. Leo is ruled by the Sun so there is a strong desire to shine like the Sun, to be radiant as well as attracting energy and attention. Leos generally have big ego's and persona's and love to be seen and noticed. The planet Pluto is in a 3 degree conjunction with my rising sign. Anytime a planet is conjunct one of the main axis in the chart, the energy of this planet is strongly presented in that area of life. Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio, the catalyst and grim reaper. Like Shiva and Kali, Pluto is the lord of death, the way of transformation, death and rebirth. I clearly see that I bring this energy through in terms of teaching and giving astrology readings. I am able to articulate and speak to the soul and transcendent facility of life within the individuals. There is a way that I can see and understand the energy matrix beneath manifest reality and assist others in recognizing it as well. There is a strong darkside to Pluto on the ascendant, as well as potency and intensity. Pluto rules the shadowside of life, those things that are unacceptable to the personal and collective consciousness. The shadow functions of Pluto can be passive-aggressive behavior, jealousy, issues with power and control, obsessive-compulsive behavior, passion, intensity, deep and profound.

This is a very significant point for me and when finally understood has provided me with a deep posture of humility and self forgiveness as I seek connection with the Supreme. Pluto is conjunct the ascendant and opposing my Sun. An opposition indicates an intense pull or tug of war between two polarity opposites, between two planets. There is a tremendous sense of power with Pluto, which ultimately requires a surrender into death and transformation. There is also the possibility of using and abusing this power and potent energy, but the results are generally very unsatisfactory. I see in astrology the issue of abuse of power in past lives. I imagine that abuse of power means the person uses their position of power, whether spiritual or worldly, to get more sex, more money and more power. With Pluto and Shiva, the key seems to be to surrender to this force and die and to be a clean vehicle of this energy in the world. Pluto is all about the passions, addictions and intense pleasures of life. As well, he rules brutality, cruelty and profanity.

I see abuse of power in my pastlives and I have been in a long period of healing, forgiving self, and integrating this awareness into my self understanding. There is not a a sense of dwelling on something negative, rather I am bringing this wound into the light of consciousness. I am offering this awareness to the fire of yoga. I really know of no deeper way than to allow difficult memories and awareness to arise, to see these old wounds with utter clarity, and to stand before the divine and say, Yes, I see this and I am so sorry that I could have ever hurt these people… on and on… I offer this consciously to the fire of yoga. I burn in the fire of self honesty as I look and forgive.

I am grateful for my Moon at 14 degrees Taurus, conjunct the midheaven, in the 9th house of Sagittarius. The placement of the Moon indicates the relationship with the mother and the India's feminine side which is learned from the mother. The Moon shows how we feel safe and secure and also indicates the body and our health. Most important, the Moon indicates how the person operates in the world on an emotional basis. Moon is exalted in Taurus, meaning it is in a good placement in here and has natural strength and vigor. Moon in Taurus is very earthy and grounded on an emotional level and enjoys satiating the senses of the physical body. Home is very important and the person has a strong need to feel safe and secure in terms of having money and possessions. With the Moon in Taurus, the health is very strong and resilient and the individual bounces back quickly from disease. The difficulty for the Moon is a tendency to get stuck and attached to things as they are. Yoga practice would be highly indicated for these moon signs in order to gain greater ability in letting go and moving forward in life.

The Moon in the 9th house of Sagittarius is very different from a Taurus moon. The Sagittarius moon feels safe and secure traveling and seeing the world. There is a broad interest in various media and self expression and the person is easily inspired and uplifted. As well, the Moon conjunct the career indicator, the midheaven, would indicate a public persona or mission which is more feminine and creative in nature; contacting the public at the level of heart.

I have described the basic qualities and main features of my birthchart. This is a piece of work in progress and I will continue to add to this body of reflection on my chart and soul matrix.
